Your Data Stays on Your Mac
Recopy was designed from the ground up with privacy as a core principle. No cloud servers, no analytics, no data collection — ever.
100% Local Storage
All clipboard data is stored locally in a SQLite database on your Mac. Nothing ever touches a remote server.
Zero Tracking
No analytics, no telemetry, no usage statistics. We have absolutely no idea how you use Recopy.
No Cloud, No Accounts
No sign-ups, no cloud sync, no accounts. Your clipboard data never leaves your device.

Introduction
This Privacy Policy describes how Recopy ("we", "our", or "the app") handles your data. Recopy is a macOS clipboard history manager developed by DevShift, designed with privacy as its foundational principle. We believe your clipboard data is inherently personal and should remain entirely under your control.
Data Collection
Recopy does not collect any data. We do not collect personal information, usage analytics, crash reports, device identifiers, or any other form of telemetry. The app operates entirely offline and makes no network requests.
Data Storage
All clipboard data captured by Recopy is stored exclusively on your local machine. The database and associated files are located at:
- Database:
~/Library/Application Support/Recopy/Recopy.store - Binary data (images, files):
~/Library/Application Support/Recopy/.Recopy_SUPPORT/_EXTERNAL_DATA/
These files are managed by macOS and are protected by your system user account permissions. No data is transmitted to any external server, cloud service, or third party.
Types of Data Processed
Recopy monitors your macOS clipboard and captures the following content types when you copy something:
- Plain text
- Rich text (RTF)
- HTML content
- URLs
- Images (PNG, JPEG, GIF, TIFF, WebP, HEIC)
- PDF documents
- File references (excluding video files)
- Code snippets (auto-detected via heuristics)
- Color values
- Spreadsheet data (TSV/CSV)
Video files (MP4, MOV, AVI, MPEG) are always rejected and never stored. All captured data remains on your device.
Accessibility Permission
Recopy requests macOS Accessibility permission solely to simulate keyboard events (Cmd+V) for its paste-to-active-app feature. This permission is also required for global keyboard shortcut monitoring. The app does not use this permission to read screen content, monitor keystrokes, or access any other application data beyond the system clipboard.
Third-Party Dependencies
Recopy uses one external open-source dependency: KeyboardShortcuts by Sindre Sorhus. This library is used exclusively for the shortcut recorder UI in the settings panel. It does not collect data, make network requests, or access your clipboard content.
Data Retention & Deletion
By default, Recopy retains clipboard history for 365 days with a maximum of 50,000 items. Both values are configurable in Settings. You can delete individual items at any time through the app interface.
To completely remove all Recopy data from your Mac, delete:
~/Library/Application Support/Recopy
This permanently erases the database, all stored clipboard content, and any associated binary data.
Children's Privacy
Recopy does not knowingly collect data from children under the age of 13. Since the app does not collect any data from any user, this concern does not apply in practice.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated revision date. Continued use of Recopy after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
